Nepali Association for Astronomical Mission (NAAM) had successfully organized its ‘Winter Star Night’ Event on 2068/10/15 (2012/01/29) Sunday. Mr. Vijay thakur (V. president as well as the co-ordinator of the event) said, “It was brilliant event to be a part, where we can learn and share our knowledge with others”.

The most important part of the event was the dark site location and the appreciating numbers of participants. The event was started nearly around 6:00p.m at evening where the members re-set tend and check instruments they had brought. All the participants were informed about the event detail and the requirement needed to participate. During event hours members had participate in finding constellations, planets and moon observation and others celestial objects.

The event was come to end at morning 7:00 am, where Mr. Vijay Thakur (coordinator of the event) had congratulate! And thanks all the participants for their participation.

This nebula is particularly note worthy because it has formed far from the galactic plane, away from interstellar clouds that may block our view. The intricate shape comprises a spherical halo, a disc around the central star, lobes and gigantic loops, this complex structure strongly suggests that the formation processes are complex and it has been suggested that there could be a second star, currently unseen, contributing to the shaping of the nebula.

Protoplanetary nebula like the frosty leo nebula have brief life spans by astronomical standards and are precursors to the planetary nebula phase in which radiation from the star will make the nebula’s gas light up brightly. Their rarity makes studying them a priority for astronomers who seek to understand better the evolution of stars.

As the second and last of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the total lunar eclipse occurring on 10 December is posed to enthrall eclipse-enthusiasts from central and eastern Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and northern Canada. The first total lunar eclipse was observed on 15 June this year. The eclipse’s total phase would last for meager fifty one minutes. Its faint penumbral shadow would begin to cover moon at 17:16 hours local time. The dark umbral phase would touch the moon at 18:30 hours. The moon would enter into totality at 19:51 hours and would arrive at the maximum phase of the greatest eclipse at 20:17 hours. The umbral eclipse magnitude would reach 1.11 at this stage. The totality end at 20:43 hours and the umbral shade would recede from the moon fully at 22:03 hours. The entire eclipse would be finally over at 23:16 hours.

Types of lunar eclipse

Astronomers recognize three basic types of lunar eclipses. In penumbral lunar eclipse the moon passes through earth’s penumbral shadow. These events are of only academic interest because they are subtle and hard to perceive. In partial lunar eclipse a portion of the moon passes through earth’s umbral shadow and can be admired easily with unaided eye. At total lunar eclipse the entire moon steeps into perplexing earth’s umbral shadow of vibrant red color.

Why does not the lunar eclipse happen each month?

Even though the moon orbits earth every 29.5 days and lunar eclipses occur at full moon, lunar eclipses do not happen every month during full moon. It is because the moon’s orbit around earth is inclined sparsely five degrees to earth’s trajectory around Sun. There are two points (ascending or descending nodes) where the lunar path intersects earth’s track. Since earth’s shadows lie exactly in the same plane, during full moon, our natural satellite usually passes above or below earth’s shadows and misses them completely. No eclipse takes place. When two to four times each year, moon finds itself at or near the nodes to pass through some portion of the earth’s penumbral or umbral shadows, one of the three types of eclipses can be witnessed. Everyone on the night side of earth can see lunar eclipse. Thirty five percent of all eclipses are of the penumbral nature. Another thirty percent are partial eclipses. Around thirty five percent are fascinating total eclipses.

Future Total Lunar Eclipse

Though 2012 and 2013 are devoid of total lunar eclipses, they could be relished in 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021.

It is the closest confirmed planet yet to one like ours-an “Earth 2.0”. However, the team doesn’t yet know If kepler 22-b is made mostly of rock, gas or liquid. During the conference at which the result was announced, the kepler team also said that it had spotted some 1,094 new candidates planets-nearly doubling the telescopes haul of potential far-flung worlds.

Kepler 22-b was one of 54 exo-planet candidates in habitable zones reported by the kepler team in February and is just the first to be formally confirmed using other telescopes. More of these “earth 2.0” candidates are likely to be confirmed in the near future, though a redefinition of the habitable zone’s boundaries has brought that numbers down to 48. ten of those are earth sized.

At the end of programe a short video was played where Mr.obama (President of U.S.A) had given speech representing to the collages students to work for Humanity with science. Mr.president of our country had also given his advice to the students present in the event to develop the nation by being a good human.

On 2068/07/11 NAAM team had leave forKatmanduto join the event ‘Galileo Teacher’s Training Programe’ from NAAM four participants had took part in the  event. During programme many proposals and talks were made about the event different issues topics, where Mr.Sudeep Sir ( V.President of NASO) co-ordinate the event followed with different reputed personals of astronomy field. In the programe a team of Euro-Astor was invited as a special guest with the officers of PABSON and NPABSON with many teachers and interested participants.

At the end of the event, importance of the join effort for the development of astronomy in country; National and Inter-national supports and establishment of basic needs for astronomy development were concluded.

As the motto of club’s for promoting and developing astronomy through its different events in its society, International events are its important way of spreading its message to mass people through participating globally. As the last year this year also NAAM had organized its event on the occasion of IOMN-2011,with grand celebration with the theme of “It’s Your Moon: What Does the Moon Mean to You?”.

Most importantly NAAM celebrated this event with the joining supports of AstroNepal (One of the astronomy club of kathmandu). During event duration more than +300 people had seen the moon with the telescope which we had placed near the main chowk of ‘Ghanta-ghar’. On the occasion of IOMN-2011 club had organized many others competition for participate members and people. At the end of program NAAM made its report and published it on local and its sources for creating more attention on the importance and useful of such events for promoting astronomy in the country likeNepal.

Nepali Association For Astronomical Mission(NAAM) had celebrated World Space Week,October 4-10,the largest annual space event of the globe. This particiapation was as the dedication made by the club for collaborating and joint participation for promoting astronomy to share the beautiful universe to the public, students, members and to each human beings on this earth. Through out the week NAAM’s had organized different events to support and enjoy this oppurtunity with its members, public and with whole world.

School’s base Exhibition -We want to groom and loves to see a new generations on interest and we believe that can be achieved by some good talks and good company. That we tried in this event.

Rockets launching events-We really wants to make a astronomy beyond a text book subject.

Poem, Art and Extra-activities competitions- We can learn through participation, that we  done  in this event.

8^th  OCT

Public-observation programs-  where we interacted  with people and make a circle where we  talk and know the cosmos better than before.

9^th-10^th OCT

‘Cycle-astronomy outreach trip’- We took astronomy through the corner of village’s  people and introduce them with the beautiful celestial heaven with our scopes. And Press-release events through national and international means.

As the last year NAAM celebrated ‘World Space Week-2011’ with the theme of “50 YEARS OF HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT”. This year NAAM’s event name was ‘World Space Week-2011 Celebration’ with Event I.D 2756. As per the sedule made by the club the first event was conducted on 4^th of October with the school’s students through photo exhibition where club’s members had explain the quaries raised by the students. Through this event we revels some of the cosmic secreats and highlights the importance of astronomy in our daily life.

On 5^th of October we conducted a rocket launching event among the club’s members around dozen of rockets were built by members and they all were propelled by the simple reaction of acid with base producing high pressure gas as carbondioxide inside vessels. It was really enjoyful events to see and learn about the principle behind working of a rockets which is master-piece creation of human’s science & technology.

Our next programe was extra activities event of Art, Essay, Poem, Photo-shoot, etc competition which was really challenging event to show your’s works and creativeness competing with others.This event is running till last of this October,so as soon as possible the complete report will be published after event complishment.

8^th of October was another new day for us to celebrate ‘World Space Week’ this time our focus was in the evening public event that we were going to organized at a very crowdy place of our town near ‘clock-tower’. In this event we set-up our scope for public to view beautiful gibbous moon and others celestial bodies. It was started nearly around 6:30 evening to 8:00 pm.

The second last day i.e 9^th of October we leave our town early in the morning with cycle for ‘Cycle-Astronomy Outreach Trip’.There were 8 participants on the event. We travel along most of the places of Parsa, Bara, Makwanpur districts, etc. On the way we observe sun-spots through scope by reflecting its on screen, talk on different issues of our events and for the night-observation camp we choose a hill site of Heatuada for Night Camp. It was a wonderful spot with dark night best for the viewing where we had used our small scope to observe the beauty of space that we had carried with us.

Through out our seven days “World Space Week” event more than 2500 people had participates with us directly or indirectly in different events, more than 5,000 people had joined or known about ‘World Space Week’ through media published on news-paper, club’s web  page, etc.

Thanks to World Space Week for such a great oppurtunity to share our interest with others indeed globaly…..!
